Custom white oak kitchen cabinets

At Cuisine Idéale, white oak has been a hallmark of our custom cabinetry expertise for over fifty years. Since 1971, we have delivered more than 250,000 cabinets across North America, each crafted to the exact dimensions, door style, and finish of the home it inhabits.

Few hardwoods exude the quiet confidence of white oak. Its pale, uniform hue and tight, straight grain evoke a sense of calm and architectural precision.

Our custom white oak cabinets are not a catalog purchase. They are designed with you, then machined and hand-finished by our master cabinetmakers, from the initial sketch to the final installation.

White Oak

Why white oak grain is a staple in high-end kitchens

White oak is first recognized for its restraint. This wood species features a tighter, straighter grain than red oak, with paler, cooler tones ranging from soft golden brown to grayish beige. Light glides across its surface like a uniform veil, which explains why it fits so perfectly into modern and transitional kitchens.

This density gives it remarkable durability. On the Janka hardness scale, white oak reaches approximately 1,350 lbf, surpassing red oak at 1,290. For deeper tones, see our walnut kitchen cabinets.

Choose the cut and finish with intention, and white oak will anchor a kitchen for fifty years.

ONE MATERIAL, MANY EXPRESSIONS

White oak adapts to your style: cuts, stains, and lacquers

More than any other species, white oak is defined by how the log is sawn. Rift-sawn white oak offers the straightest, most linear grain. Quarter-sawn, it reveals a shimmering fleck pattern. Plain-sawn creates a cathedral grain.

Its pale surface is a gift for the finisher. Three finishes elevate natural white oak:

  1. Natural: a clear protective finish that lets the white oak's golden and whitish-gray tones speak for themselves
  2. Winter Lake: a cool, refined gray-blue stain that transforms white oak into a contemporary canvas
  3. A light, clear lacquer, applied by hand, which adds depth while keeping the surface pale and current

For a more dramatic palette, our Caviar, Nori, and Black Bean lacquers open up the wood to darker tones.

White oak cabinet doors across our seven collections

The character of white oak changes depending on the door style it wears. The same board looks traditional behind a raised panel. Behind a Shaker frame? Transitional. Behind a flat door, contemporary.

All seven of our collections are available in white oak: Regency, Oxford, and Monaco for traditional, Scotstown for transitional Shaker, and Linea, Westport, and Visso for contemporary. See them in action in our projects.
